Too cool for school? Once upon a time, Ferris Bueller's hyper laxed lifestyle was the ultimate cool, and gosh, who doesn't want to live like a kid again just for one day. In this week's edition of Weekend Watch we go back to the '80s, with Ferris Bueller's Day Off .
"Sporadically hilarious, with roots that run far deeper than expected.” - Empire
Bailing on class, pulling ridiculous pranks, Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) was the kid that everyone wanted to be. Set in the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, this movie follows the story of Ferris's most adventurous day with best friend, Cameron (Alan Ruck) and girlfriend, Sloane (Mia Sara). The hilarious trickster starts the day faking illness to his parents, letting him stay at him. Cleverly creating a prototype of himself 'sleeping' in the bedroom (we've all tried this one!), Ferris then picks up the gang and begins a spontaneous romp around the city of Chicago. With the Dean of Students Edward R. Rooney (Jeffrey Jones) growing more and more suspicious, he makes it his mission to capture Ferris in the act. The Dean and Ferris play a cat and mouse chase, whilst Ferris' big sister, Jeanie (Jennifer Grey) also joins in to catch him out. This movie is all fun, keeping you on the edge of your seats thinking, "when is he going to get caught?!". Wonder why lip-sync battles are so popular? Well, this is why. The film features some of the most iconic scenes in Hollywood, which includes the famous lip-sync float scene. In a bid to cheer up best bud, Cameron, Ferris jumps up on a carnival float to be handed the mic for a classic sing and dance of The Beatles, "Twist and Shout". This wild movie will get you back with your own teen spirit, Ferris Bueller's Day Off is entirely loveable making this the perfect film for a group movie night!
