It was a whole 20 years ago that this movie graced cinemas across the globe and became the Dr Zeuss story that won an Oscar and stole our hearts! In another round of Christmas movies, this week, we look at How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Directed by Ron Howard, as an adaptation of the classic Dr Seuss picture book, the movie holds the title as the second top-grossing Christmas film of all time, and the sixth top-grossing film of 2000. Although the older generation might favourite animated, 1966 version, we can’t deny that the Jim Carrey who played the famous character was one of the best of all time!

Set in the made-up town of Whoville, the Grinch lives in the outskirts of the town, high up in the tallest peak. Every year, the Grinch looks over at the town, and feels resentment with the Narrator reading, “The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season! Now, please don't ask why. No one quite knows the reason.” The nostalgic rhymes of the narrator, are the lines we remember well, year on year. The story follows the Grinch, making an effort to rip Whoville of their Christmas spirit by destroying everything Christmassy about it! Dressed up in full Santa attire (which he makes himself), the Grinch heads out on Christmas Eve. Whilst in the midst of stealing a Christmas tree from a family home, the Grinch is caught by cutesie Cindy Lou Who (Taylor Momsen), who forces him to reflect on his hatred for the holiday season.

We all love this iconic story where the moral of the movie holds it close to our hearts, this message is kindness over consumerism, as it seems that this one will be even more relevant in 2020 than before. You can watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Google Play from £2.49!
