1) Singburi, Authentic Thai food in Leytonstone.

FOOD TYPE: Authentic Thai

AMBIENCE: Squashed in, family-run controlled chaos!

WHY WE LIKE IT: It still feels like a hidden treasure, everything about the place is nonchalant. The food is unbelievably good, like proper spicy, authentic Thai grub. It's also BYOB, so be sure to grab a bottle on your way down!

593 High Rd Leytonstone,
London E11 4PA

Contact: 020 8281 4801

2) Brawn, Seasonal European small plates in Hackney.

FOOD TYPE: Seasonal, produce driven dishes reflecting a love of cultural European cooking.

AMBIENCE: Bouji, but friendly neighbourhood local vibes.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Incredible produce - the menu only serves up the best of the best every week. Natural wines, great service and they've got a tiramisu so good we get emotional thinking about it.

49 Columbia Rd, London E2 7RG

3) Smoking Goat, Bustling late night spot with flavourful plates inspired by Thai street food in Shoreditch.

FOOD TYPE: Sharing dishes inspired by Bangkok’s late-night canteens

AMBIENCE: A real mix, it’s really busy with punters on dates, business dinners and parties.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Hearty, spicy, sharing platters - The Chilli Fish Sauce Wings are unbelievably tasty. It might have something to do with the waiting list being anything up to 3 hours and getting wrecked in the bar beforehand, but it’s a great place to start a night out.

64 Shoreditch High St,
London E1 6JJ

4)Black Axe Mangal, not exactly in East London but we can assure you it's definately worth the bus trip!

FOOD TYPE: Turkish inspired meats, flatbreads and anything that goes in their pizza oven (that isn’t pizza).

AMBIENCE: Pure unadulterated curated carnage. Loud music, flowing negronis and wine by the pint.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Everything above plus the Fois Gras and prune jam donuts or the Squid Ink + Cod’s Roe Flatbread egg and glitter, naturally. Bang bang.

156 Canonbury Rd,
London N1 2UP

Contact: Open Table (for bookings)

5) Sichuan Folk, one of the only Sichuan-Chinese spots in London. Based on Brick Lane, this little spot serves up pure authenticity in every dish!

FOOD TYPE: Spicy Sichuan-Chinese cuisine.

AMBIENCE: It’s more of a dining room.

WHY WE LIKE IT: Mouth numbing Sichuan mixed with sweet + sour flavours and crispy, gelatinous, soupy textures. Basically every mouthful is different and divine. Bring milk.
