Weekend Watch: The Great Outdoors (1988)
And a very happy new year to all! We know we haven’t been as on top of weekend watch as we were at first. It has genuinely made us quite sad. So, we are making sure we don’t dip again. Now that lockdown is firmly in place for the foreseeable, this is the best time to get cracking on some good tv. To kick things off, we chose an oldie, but a goodie. Two comedic geniuses go on summer vacation where chaos ensues. Let’s spend the weekend in ‘The Great Outdoors’.
Outdoor fun for everyone.
Chet Ripley (John Candy), his wife Kate (Annette Benning) and kids are headed to a lake resort for the summer holidays. A spot where he honeymooned, Chet has ideas of spending quality time with his family in the great outdoors. But soon plans are turned sour by family gatecrashers. Kate’s sister, Connie (Stephanie Faracy) along with obnoxious husband Roman (Dan Aykroyd), and their twin daughters, spoil the mood by showing up without warning. The two families try their best to get along, but soon small incidents snowball into fury with anger turning into the best slapstick comedy. Candy and Aykroyd are marvellous foes and this comedy will have you smiling all the way through.
