Weekend Watch: The Lost Boys (1987)
You know, we had to go back and check to see if we’d done this amazing film already. But we hadn’t! Kind of embarrassing really considering just how flipping good it is.
Featuring Jason Patric, Corey Haim and Kiefer Sutherland. The film takes place when Micheal (Patric) and Sam (Haim) have to move to a new town, only to find out that the town is a total haven for vampires. Mean ones at that, vampires that say no to love and don't like outsiders.
"One thing about living in Santa Carla I never could stomach, all the damn vampires.” - Micheal's Grandpa
For some reason, this film gets mixed reviews. We think it might be down to people not realising that its a kinda horror comedy, there are moments in the film that are a bit of a nod to old horror cinema. In some ways this film came out way before its time, considering the extravagance of the 1980’s people we used to seeing serious, boundary-pushing special effects and epic adventures. Not a load of teenage vampires chasing each other on motorbikes and blowing up in a poof of ketchup.
The Lost Boys is a most excellent choice for those who want to escape, laugh and wanna see vampires but want to avoid watching twilight for the 100th time.
