Weekend Watch: True Romance (1993)
Simple romance. That's the dream, right? Head over heels, peas in a pod, together until the end. But what happens when a suitcase of drugs and mobsters get involved in? How would you deal? Get some tips from this weekend's watch, True Romance.
Who Says Romance Is Dead?
RClarence Worley (Christian Slater) is a comic book enthusiast and Elvis Presley fanatic. On his birthday, he goes to the movie cinema to watch Kung Fu movies by himself. At the showing, he meets the beautiful Alabama (Patricia Arquette) who starts chatting with him, apparently taken by him. They return to Clarence's apartment where they sleep together. Alabama then makes a tearful confession that she is a call girl and was actually hired by his boss as a birthday present to Clarence. Her admissions continue as the two get to know each other and the rest of her story prompts Clarence to visit her pimp, Drexl Spivey (Gary Oldman), and end her working relationship with him. On the way out, he takes a suitcase of what he thinks is her things, but in fact it's full of cocaine. When the two discover the bounty, they make a plan to drive to LA and enlist the help of Clarence's friend, Dick Ritchie (Michael Rapaport) , an aspiring actor, to sell the drug. Of course, it doesn't take long for the real owner of the suitcase, Vincenzo Coccotti (Christopher Walken) and the mob to come calling on Clarence and Alabama. Will the lovebirds get away and live happily ever after?
A brilliant screenplay written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Tony Scott. The calibre of the cast is beyond with brilliant performances from all. Of course, when Tarantino is involved, there are his favourite players to look out for like... Samuel L. Jackson and more. We hope you enjoy this warm romantic comedy :-)
