Weekend Watch: When Harry Met Sally (1989)
Yes... yes... yes... oohhhhh... yup one of the most famous scenes ever! And I watched this film for the first time yesterday. Inbetween freaking out about the news and trying to headstand for over a minute. Which is no small thing I can tell you. Id always thought that this film was just a super old typical romantic comedy. But actually I couldn't have been further from the truth. 10 mins in and I was hooked. Just the dialogue alone was so quick and funny. It almost seemed way ahead of its time. I think this realism makes this film great. Theirs no huge fancy apartments no big gestures or speeches in the rain. The film follows Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally's (Meg Ryan) friendship. The film shows how they come in and out of each other's lives and always avoid becoming romantic. Either because it would ruin their friendship or the timing was off. We watch as the two characters meander through life, eventually coming together. But will it work out... You will have to watch and find out!
This film is so charming. I'm not talking about Hugh Grant, I've made you tea is there anything else I can get for you darling charming, it is actually charming. The soundtrack makes use of classic tasteful love songs in an age of music saturation. As I said, the dialogue is great, the outfits are great and most importantly, the hair is great. I fully recommend checking this classic out if you're stuck for ideas on what to watch or you wanna smile! :) When Harry Met Sally can be rented on YouTube and Google Play for £4.99 OR you can find the movie on Netflix!
