Weekend Watch: Death Becomes Her (1992)
This weekend we were in the mood for comedic rivalry. We are sure a lot of titles come to mind, but there is one standout for. With exceptional players, a killer script and beaut storyline, this weekend's watch is to both live for and die for - Death Becomes Her.
Some people will go to any lengths to stay young forever. But Madeline Ashton and her old friend Helen Sharp are about to go TOO far.
Narcissistic actress, Madeline Ashton (Meryl Streep) is performing the musical, Songbird! on Broadway to very poor reviews. One night, she invites her longtime rival, aspiring writer, Helen Sharp (Goldie Hawn) and her plastic surgeon fiance Ernest Melville (Bruce Willis) to her show. At this meeting, Ernest falls for the beautiful Madeline, who purposefully tries to break up the couple. Ernest calls off his engagement to Helen and marries Madeline, sending Helen into a depression and eventually to a psychiatric hospital. Years pass and Helen puts on weight and anger. Meanwhile, Madeline and Ernest's marriage is falling apart. No longer a surgeon, Ernest has become an alcoholic and Madeline searches out a way to get back her youth and beauty. She discovers a magic potion that will keep her young and ageless and begins taking it. Loving her transformation, she decides to seek out the overweight Helen, wanting to boast about her appearance. What Madeline finds is a completely beautiful and youthful Helen which reignites the toxic rivalry between them. Helen reconnects with Ernest and convinces him they must kill Madeline. What they don't realise is, it's not as easy as it seems....
