Weekend Watch: Kill Bill: Vol.1
The weekend's watch made us all feel differently about the sheer coolness of a full yellow jumpsuit and matching shoes. It introduced us to some of the wildest confrontations ever seen in a martial arts film. Witty, stylish and entirely gruesome, Kill Bill Vol.1 is our pick for this week!
Here comes the bride.
The movie begins in a wedding chapel in El Paso, Texas. The Bride (Uma Thurman) lies bleeding on the floor having just been attacked by the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad, a team she was once a part of. Just as she confesses to her killers that she is pregnant, The Bride is shot in the head and left for dead. Fast forward four years and The Bride, having successfully recovered from her attack, launches a HUGE solo revenge operation, seeking out each member of her former group that tried to kill her. Her trip begins in California where she meets member Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox). She then makes her way to Okinawa to seek out O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu). As The Bride begins her journey of revenge, always in the back of her mind is to eventually Kill Bill, the leader of the group who ordered her kill.
Director Quentin Tarrantino is known for his love of old Hollywood style, of spaghetti westerns and samurai cinema. Kill Bill Vol.1 is a culmination of all these loves with a (dare we say) killer soundtrack and incredible cast. The fight scenes are brutal, fast paced and totally engaging. The cinematography is lush and smooth. There aren't too many things we don't like about this flick! Samuel L. Jackon’s cameo is one of his best. Of course, there is another volume to partake in after this initial one which we HIGHLY recommend also. We hope you enjoy!
Kill Bill Vol.1 can be rented online from Amazon Prime, YoutTube and Google Play for £2.49. (**Prices and availability are correct at time of post!)
