At the heart of Páramo’s story is something truly special: The Miquelina Foundation.
More Than Just Outerwear
Founded in the early 1990s by Nick Brown the innovator behind Nikwax—PÁRAMO was created to challenge the norms of outdoor clothing. Instead of relying on traditional waterproof membranes, Páramo garments use Nikwax Analogy®, a unique fabric system that actively pumps moisture away from the body while remaining breathable and repairable.
But what really sets Páramo apart is where and how its clothing is made.
The Miquelina Foundation: Crafting Change
Since 1992, Páramo has partnered with The Miquelina Foundation in Bogotá, Colombia a social enterprise that provides training, employment, and support to vulnerable women, many of whom have experienced violence or displacement.
Founded in 1977, the Foundation began as a safe haven for women looking to escape cycles of poverty and exploitation. Today, with Páramo’s ongoing support, it operates as a certified production facility—over 80% of Páramo’s products are made there. Women are given real opportunities: vocational training, childcare, access to housing, and long-term employment that helps restore dignity and build independent lives.
The partnership goes far beyond business. Páramo helps fund development projects at Miquelina and ensures the workers are paid fairly, work in safe conditions, and are part of something meaningful.
In 2017, the Miquelina workshop achieved World Fair Trade Organization status, officially recognising it as a Fair Trade producer. Every Páramo garment made there carries that weight of purpose.
