Sandqvist Bags & Backpacks

Sandqvist started in a Stockholm basement in 2004, when Anton Sandqvist couldn't find a bag that worked for both the commute and the weekend and built one. His brother and a childhood friend joined shortly after. What we stock is the harder-wearing end — the Icon and Stream rolltop backpacks, the Go 3-Way, and the smaller sling and crossbody bags.

Sandqvist Icon and Stream Rolltop Backpacks

A rolltop closes by folding the opening over on itself, so the bag takes whatever you put in it and gets shorter when you don't fill it. It also keeps rain out better than a zip. The Icon is the softer of the two; the Stream is the more structured, and there's a zipper version if you'd rather not roll anything. The Icon Rolltop comes in a 16-inch size that takes a laptop. All of them will sit upright on the floor when loaded, which sounds trivial until you've used a bag that won't.

Sandqvist Sling, Shoulder and Crossbody Bags

The Stream sling is the one that goes across your body and round to the front, for a phone, a wallet and not much else. The shoulder bag is the same thought with a longer strap. The Curve Halfmoon sits apart from both — it's the only piece here that isn't obviously a work bag, and it's the one we'd take out in the evening. If you're between the sling and the crossbody, the sling holds more and rides higher.

How Sandqvist Bags Are Made

The bags have been made in India since 2009, with the same factories throughout, and Sandqvist is a member of the Fair Wear Foundation. New synthetic material is recycled from post-consumer waste, cotton is organic and bought direct from farmers, and leather comes from tanneries rated by the Leather Working Group. The brand also runs a repair service rather than expecting you to replace a bag when a zip goes.
