Collection: Women's Red Wing Boots & Shoes

Women's Red Wing boots and shoes, from the company Charles Beckman founded in Red Wing, Minnesota, in 1905. It is still based there. Its women's boots are made on their own last, slimmer and lighter than the men's, rather than being men's boots in smaller sizes. We stock the 6-inch Classic Moc, Porter, Iron Ranger, Silversmith and Chelsea boots, plus the Shop Moc oxford and Carrier shoe. For more, see our boots and shoe care.

Red Wing Moc Toe Boots: the Classic Moc and Porter

The 6-inch Classic Moc is the women's version of Red Wing's moc toe, the boot the brand calls an icon of its Heritage range. It sits on a thinner, lighter polyurethane sole than the men's boot, which makes it more flexible. The Porter keeps the same moc toe but swaps that sole for a chunkier lug, and adds a storm welt for extra water resistance. Both are Goodyear welted, so when the sole wears through it can be replaced rather than the whole boot.

Red Wing Iron Ranger, Silversmith and Chelsea Boots

The Iron Ranger is named after the miners of Minnesota's Iron Range, and its double layer of leather over the toe was first added to protect their feet. The Silversmith has a narrower, sleeker profile, on a Vibram mini-lug sole. The Classic Chelsea is the pull-on option. If you'd rather a shoe, the Shop Moc is the moc toe cut down to an ankle-height oxford, and the Carrier is Red Wing's women's version of its Postman shoe, on a Traction Tred sole.

How Women's Red Wing Fits

The usual advice for men's Red Wing is to go half to a full size down. The women's boots are different: Red Wing says they fit true to size, so start with your normal size. Expect them to feel firm at first. Red Wing suggests wearing a new pair indoors for a few hours at a time, building up over the first few weeks while the leather softens to your foot, with padded socks to help. If you use Mink Oil, test it on a small area first, as it darkens leather.
