Bulletin: The Simpsons x adidas Originals

A Krusty Burger. A Squishee. Bart on a board. Whoever chose the references for this understood that nobody wants Homer's face on a t-shirt — they want the fast food chain that doesn't exist and the frozen drink they've never tasted.

What's in it

The Krusty Burger tee is the obvious one — the logo lifted straight, with "over dozens sold" underneath, which is the actual joke and the reason it's funny. There's a long-sleeve version with the burger drawn in outline across the back.

The Squishee hoodie puts the cup on the chest in black, pink and turquoise. Small graphic, plain garment, and the better for it.

Our favourite is the track jacket. Standard adidas Originals cut, black with yellow stripes rather than white, and Bart embroidered small on the chest riding a board. The yellow does the work — it's the character's colour without being a print of the character.

There's also a plain white tee with Bart on a skateboard drawn in single-weight line, which is the restrained one in the set.

Why it works

Licensed cartoon clothing is usually terrible, because the temptation is to make the character as big as possible. This didn't. Most of the graphics are small, most of the garments are plain, and the references are to things inside the show rather than to the show itself.
