After the unification of Germany in 1989, the Japanese TV station, Asahi, urged viewers to donate to the Sakura Campaign - a project to plant Sakura trees in Berlin. The campaign was a major success, raising around one million euros and planting approximately 9000 trees.

To this day, Berlin still celebrates the Tokyo connection and with these sneakers, so does adidas Originals! The ZX 8000 launched in 1989 and so is the perfect candidate to celebrate this occasion. The Hanami colourway celebrates “Sakura” in the daytime via shades of pink suede and mesh.

The “Yozakura” pay tribute to the blossom at night time with shades of light grey and pale pink. These beautiful sneakers come with two sets of laces, Berlin and Tokyo lace jewels, and a special shoe box that is full of sweet cutout cherry blossoms. Such a lovely release and way to honour the love-ship between Berlin and Tokyo.

Available in store and online from the 28th of March, 2020.
