Women's Mizuno Trainers

Mizuno started in Osaka in 1906 selling baseballs and only got into running shoes twenty years later. The bird on the side is the Runbird, and it has been there since the eighties. Most of what's here is the MXR, a nineties runner in nine colourways. The Wave Rider is the one built for actual running. Contender and Sky Medal sit in between, and there's a fair amount reduced in sale footwear.

Mizuno MXR Trainers


The MXR is the bulk of this collection and the reason most people land on it, and every pair here is a women's fit. A nineties running shape brought back as a lifestyle shoe, so it looks like a runner without being one. There's a Millenium version and a Space Lights version, and the differences between them are mostly on the upper rather than underneath. If you want the Mizuno everyone recognises, this is it.

Mizuno Wave Rider and Wave Mujin Trainers

These are the ones with the Wave plate in the midsole — a corrugated insert Mizuno introduced in 1997 with the first Wave Rider, meant to cushion and stabilise at the same time. The Wave Rider 10 and the Wave Rider B are road shapes. The Wave Mujin TL is the trail one. The Wave Prophecy LS is the odd one out, with the springs visible through the side of the sole. Worth saying: the lifestyle models on this page don't have the Wave plate, whatever the shape suggests.

Women's Mizuno Contender and Sky Medal Trainers

Both are lifestyle shoes rather than running shoes. The Contender is the flatter of the two and the Sky Medal has more sole under the heel. There's a Contender S as well, which is a different last from the standard Contender. These are the pairs we'd suggest if you want the Mizuno look without something built for mileage.
