Porter Yoshida & Co bags and backpacks, from Yoshida & Co, the Tokyo bag maker Kichizo Yoshida founded in 1935. Porter followed in 1962 and is still designed and made in Japan, under the company's motto of "heart and soul in every stitch". Porter Yoshida Force or Crag Bags?

The two lines look alike at a glance and feel nothing alike. Force is made from 210-denier nylon, a fabric more often used on sailboats, cut into shapes taken from military kit: a helmet bag, a waist bag, a shoulder bag and a daypack. Even the lining is modelled on a military flight jacket. It's the lighter of the two. Crag uses a cotton-nylon blend, garment-dyed, and Porter drew it from mid-century American military jackets, so it has the duller, softer surface of a coat rather than a bag. Pick Force if you want light and sharp, Crag if you'd rather it looked closer to something you'd wear.

Porter Yoshida Backpacks

Backpacks are what most people come looking for. The Force Daypack is the lightest and plainest. The Crag 2-Way Rucksack can be carried on your back or by hand, which suits a commute that ends in a meeting. Beyond those, the Dissection, Senses and Future backpacks and the All Alice Pack with its pouches are bolder designs. None of them is cheap.

Smaller Porter Yoshida Bags and Wallets

For less to carry, the Flex Bonsac is a small bag in ripstop nylon from the Flex line, which Porter makes to pack down. The Force waist bag works worn across the body over a coat. The Gloss bucket bag and hand bag are the one departure from Porter's usual military look, and the Dill travel wallet and coin case keep the essentials together.
