Weekend Watch: Romeo Must Die (2000)
This week, we are joining a turf war taking place on prime waterfront real estate. Martial arts, guns and a beautiful, savvy girl caught in the middle. Join us for this weekend's watch, Romeo Must Die.
In A World Of Vicious Rivalries And Violent Betrayals Only One Thing Is Sure.
Isaak O'Day (Delroy Lindo) a gang leader of a crime syndicate. Ch'u Sing (Henry O) is the head of a Triad. The two are in the throes of a deal to buy up property along the prominent Oakland Waterfront to eventually sell off to a businessman who wishes to build a sports stadium. Everything looks cosy until Po Sing, Ch'u's son is killed and Isaak's group look to be the culprits. Back in Hong Kong, Po's big brother, Han Sing (Jet Li), who is an ex-police officer and currently in jail, finds out about his brother's death and breaks free to fly to the USA and find out what happened. As he investigates, he makes a rival in Isaak's right hand man, Mac (Isaiah Washington) and an ally in Isaak's daughter, Trish O'Day (Aaliyah). What ensues is an action packed, all-out battle between the two families to get to the bottom of the mystery and find the dirty culprit.
This modern day Romeo and Juliet was Aaliyah's first film and for Jet Li, this was his second Hollywood film. The two built a close friendship after filming together and Jet Li even made a cameo in the music video for the movie's title track, 'Try Again.'
Romeo Must Die can be watched on Amazon Prime and YouTube for £3.49. (**Prices and availability correct at time of post!)
